Aikins has a long history of involvement in community-based organizations, and continuing in that tradition, Aikins is proud to be the first professional firm to become a House Sponsor for Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg.
Why would we make this commitment?
- It’s a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community, and a deserving Winnipeg family
- The team-building experience it provides for lawyers and staff will result in strengthened working relationships
- People feel a personal fulfillment from participating in projects such as this
- We recognize the importance of meaningful work experiences and the need for balance within our personal lives. This approach is consistent with our continuing commitment to excellence within our firm, enabling us to continue to attract and retain exceptional lawyers and staff.
The Blitz Build week took place from July 8th to the 15th, and involved 20 to 30 members of Aikins lawyers and staff working on "our" house on each of those days. Aikins would like to express a huge thank you to all who contributed to and volunteered at the Blitz Build, many of whom are portrayed in the above photographs. Your participation is appreciated and has made a positive difference to the people and organizations involved with Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg, including Aikins.
Habitat for Humanity gives people a hand up, not a hand out.

Aikins MacAulay & Thorvaldson LLP Support Innovation in Teaching with Gift to Faculty of Law

On January 15, 2004 The Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba announced the creation of the Aikins MacAulay & Thorvaldson Classroom in Robson Hall thanks to a $250,000 donation by the partners of our Firm.
As a result of this gift, the Faculty has been able to transform Room 206 Robson Hall into a new “smart” classroom with advanced technical capabilities. Power and Internet hook ups are built into each student station. From the podium, a professor can activate VCR or DVD players, or turn on the document reader for high magnification on an overhead screen. A smartboard projects a computer desktop onto a screen where documents can be opened, created or modified. Full Internet access is also available.
“This gift reflects the professional community''''s commitment to the law school and sets a benchmark for other firms and alumni to follow in support of the law school,” said Harvey Secter, Dean of Law. “It also recognizes the need for the Faculty to have modern, quality facilities to enhance learning opportunities for students and teaching opportunities for faculty.
