Firm Structure

Our practice encompasses legal services ranging from the personal concerns of individuals to the highly sophisticated and comprehensive requirements of major business enterprises. To provide this breadth of service, Aikins is structured into two departments: Business Law and Advocacy. To further focus our services, our Departments comprise a number of Practice Groups. This structure enables us to mobilize our resource of specialized skills most effectively, and to focus most efficiently upon specific areas of concern for each client in the most cost-efficient manner.

Business Law

Our clients range from individual proprietors to governments and related agencies to multi-national corporations, financial institutions, and insurance and trust companies. Our services are local, regional, national and international in dimension and include mergers and acquisitions, purchase and sale of assets, public and private financing, banking and all aspects of real and personal property security, corporate restructuring, securities law, computer and technology law, construction contract advice, intellectual property law, privacy law, competition law, partnerships, foreign investment, international business transactions including trade law, franchises, leases and distributorships and all necessary corporate and business filings.

Advocacy

The firm is regularly engaged in all manner of corporate, commercial, financial and personal injury litigation including contract, tort, intellectual property, corporate reorganizations, shareholders’ rights, debtor/creditor disputes, realizations, insolvency and foreclosures. We are particularly skilled in large litigation matters, as we have the technological, research and staffing resources necessary to manage the organizational complexity of such cases. We are able to respond immediately in emergency actions such as applications for Mareva Injunctions and Anton Pillar Orders. The firm handles a wide range of administrative law functions, appearing before federal, provincial and municipal boards, regulatory tribunals and transportation, environmental and other hearings. We act in arbitrations and as arbitrators in a range of practice areas.
